The Busiest Day Yet!! (Dance Class #11, Coaching #3, Live Performance, Demo!)

Ok so this is going to be quick and awesome!

Today I completed: dance class #11, my demo track (which I have to upload to sound cloud?!), coaching #3, and viewing a live performance! And of course a daily practice as per usual.

So here it goes!

I started the day recording the demo track with my personal hero, Brian Mezerski! What would I do without him? He helped my technologically challenged self complete this challenge! We recorded Good Girl, which is originally performed by Carrie Underwood (one of my favorite artists) in the awesome suites in McEwen Communications Building... I never knew those rooms existed in that building. It was really cool exploring outside the PAC and experiencing a totally new part of Elon! It was also really hard having my voice so exposed like that... I feel like live performances are a little veiled by the acoustics of a room, the hum of human activity, and the instruments adding extra chaos... But when you record it's like all of your vocal flaws are laid bare. It was kind of terrifying and very difficult to listen to.

Then, I completed coaching #3 with Tyson! We worked on an audition cut for Number 5 With A Bullet, which I feel could be an awesome audition song if I get it really locked in. The style of this song really fits who I am and the style of music I gravitate to, but it's also difficult because it obviously needs drums in the accompaniment. If I can be as prepared and comfortable as possible with the song, then I have a much better chance of leading audition accompanists. Tyson helped me clean up the cut and tempo, which will help it go off much more smoothly in the future!

Then, I headed to ballet with Cherie, where we have been continuing to work on our material for the final. Technique-wise, we focused on articulation of the feet today and use of musicality in the timing of our combinations. Sometimes the technique has to take a back seat to the artistry of your approach, because it doesn't matter if your technique is perfect. If you aren't feeling the music and dancing through it, you're just going through a set of shapes!

Look at me, I was a bad girl and forgot my ballet slippers today! Hence, I am wearing the blue socks of shame.... As I have just so appropriately named them. :)

And FINALLY, tonight Molly, Madison, and I took a trip to the Haw River Ballroom to see Langhorne Slim and the Law! We had a blast and actually had an interesting discussion about his performance afterward. He's not super well known, so we felt that his performance was sometimes a bit much compared to his reputation... But then you realize that he absolutely has to give it his all, no matter the size of his venue or audience. I give him credit for really getting up there and owning that stage! He may have also been a little intoxicated too..... Hey, rock and roll, am I right?

Here's the opening act! They were totally cool and Indie... And funny as hell too! We really enjoyed their performance.

Also, they didn't give me a ticket so I took a picture of my stamp!!

And here's the man himself! Look at those shades...

Daily practice was devoted to getting ready to record Good Girl!

Minutes: 40

Repertoire: Good Girl, Wine After Whiskey

Technique Worked: finding that pharyngeal mix and sailing into those high notes without pushing too much air into it! Sometimes I get a little over-excited when I sing material I love, and that makes some of my old, and bad, habits return!

Musicality Worked: Edgy attacks, especially at the beginnings of the high sections and lots of work with trying to get my tongue OUT OF THE WAY. It was super hard on the "go"s and "woah"s... But I did my best!!

And now I am EXHAUSTED, we did entirely too much jamming and dancing tonight!

Love to you all, what a fun day!
XOXO
