Well, before I get to that I suppose I should cover my breakfast very quickly! I made a super fast breakfast of oatmeal with coconut milk, blueberries, chia seeds, and walnuts!
Today I got to be a part of something so wonderful! I completed my first Charitable Deed by volunteering at the North Carolina Special Olympics Spring Games, and it was the most fulfilling, heart warming experience I could have asked for today. Madison and I got paired with Taylor, but we ended up befriending a lot of other athletes because Taylor was a popular girl! We met her best friend Betsy and her boyfriend Ben and lots of other people, it was a wonderful time. We even got to cover for other volunteers and step in to support their athlete buddies when they couldn't be there anymore. I met a lot of amazing people who deserved all the love and encouragement they received today!
Look at our girl! She got 3rd in the Softball Throw and 1st in the 100M Walk and we cheered her on the whole way! I was lucky enough to have Madison, Zane, and Zach with me to round out the cheering squad.
Madison pointed this out to me: When the athletes would cheer each other on, the common phrase you would hear being tossed about was "Do your best!" I love how positive and encouraging the attitude of this event proved to be, it was inspiring to see people challenge themselves and branch out into activities they may not have participated in otherwise. I was so proud of all the participants, and honored to be a part of their triumphant day!
I also had a coaching today! Tyson and I worked on some of my material for Mastering Your Mix. Together, we reviewed the musical interludes in City so that I could have correct entrances, and we tried out Black Velvet for the first time with accompaniment! Weirdly enough, Black Velvet is made of almost entirely triplets, and the rhythm can be complicated and weird. We had an great session, though, I love to just sing it out without thinking about acting or performing and getting the chance to feel the music for the music's sake.
Look at Tyson, he's such a champ! And he's wearing my favorite color!
For my daily practice, I was preparing to work with Tyson so I could be efficient in our coaching and not waste his time!
Minutes: 36
Repertoire: City and Black Velvet
Technique Worked: I definitely covered accuracy of rhythms and entrances today! I also worked on the differentiation between the hard mix and the light mix feelings, trying to play with resonance and power to achieve the different sounds one after the other.
Musicality Worked: Both these songs are very stylistic, and I got to really play around with the contemporary sounds. City is all about the smoke and breathiness and Black Velvet is all about that hard edge and rock and roll growl!
Thanks for checking in!
XOXO
