Minutes: 35
Repertoire: "Out of My Dreams", "Much More", "City"
Technique Work: Today, I really wanted to focus on my head voice. I've got an audition for Carousel tomorrow evening, and I'll be coaching a Light Mix piece in our Mastering Your Mix class, tomorrow afternoon! I'm glad these things are coinciding so that I can have a very concentrated practice session today. Once I warmed up, I started with head voice exercises to get myself in the right place for the songs I was about to tackle. I felt ready to go on my classic music theater pieces, so then it was on to "Out of My Dreams" and "Much More". To get myself into a slightly less classical placement for "City", I performed the Light Mix exercise we learned in class on Tuesday before launching into my favorite Sara song!
Musicality Work: "Out of My Dreams" and "Much More": Classical placement, rounded vowels, raised soft palate, lots of release and vibrato. "City": relaxed palate, added texture to the sound with breathiness, straight toning.
P.S. I'm VERY excited to be working on "City" as an assignment for Mix class. It's my favorite Sara Bareilles song, and if you haven't heard it you're missing out!
Thanks for reading!

... And So It Begins!
Today marks the beginning of the end for Elon Music Theatre
class of 2015. I could not be more grateful to have my classmates by my side in
the final sprint to the finish line that is graduation! Now, only one thing
stands in our way… cue suspenseful music!
Our Senior Seminar will culminate in a 30 Day Challenge set
by our professors, calling us to spend EACH DAY of April, 2015 working to
better ourselves as individuals and artists. Throughout April, I will document
the process of nurturing my mind, spirit, and body, while preparing myself
professionally and mentally for the great big world that lies beyond the Elon
bubble!
How will I pull this off, you ask? Because, to me, maintaining
the balance between work and rest is a daily struggle! How do I possibly
prepare healthy meals, exercise, grow as a musician, and all the while remain
sane enough to treat myself and others with the compassionate thought and
attention we all deserve?! Hopefully, with attainable goals and an impeccable balancing
act, I will learn to be a superwoman by the end of April!
Wish me luck!
XOXO
