What a Wonderful Day (Healthy Meal #16, Time in Nature #2)

This morning I magically woke up SO EARLY. I swear, it was a Disney Princess moment, there were birds chirping and the sun was streaming through my curtains and I felt entirely rested.... AT SEVEN AM?! This never happens to me, I feel like a lucky girl today!

I puttered around the house for a good long while, cleaning and tidying up before I finally made my breakfast. I was wanting something sweet this morning, so I made myself a bowl of plain oatmeal. I love oatmeal, it's one of my ultimate favorite foods, which is maybe weird... But it's just so comforting and warm and delish!

I add a little unsweetened vanilla coconut milk for consistency and creaminess, a few walnuts chopped up, a sprinkle of chia seeds to be ultra filling, and then a tiny spoonful of huckleberry jam! My grandma sent me the jam this year and I've been rationing it out... This Montana girl misses her huckleberries!

After breakfast, I headed to the City Park for some time in nature! It's a funny place because the entrance is filled with a carousel and carnival rides for little tots. All the little ones were out today, and they were so precious!

The cool thing about the park is that the vegetation is so dense, you don't have to walk very far for the noise to fade away and find a secluded spot to be by yourself. You can only hear the occasional train whistle going through the park. I feel like I'm in Gilmore Girls at Stars Hollow, it's such an odd yet quaint little park.

Remember how I'm obsessed with Gretchen Rubin's "Happiness Project"?! WELL it just so happens that she has a new book out, and it is wonderful so far! I had the most perfect time out in the park, spending some time of reflection and hopefully learning helpful information about habit formation that can help me develop and grow into the person I wish I can someday become. There's a quote that I've always loved and it's always been a guidepost in my life: "To be who we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life." I think there's always room to find improvement in ourselves, but also simultaneously know that we are good enough. We should be proud of ourselves but strive to be a better version every single day. I'm only on the first chapter of this book so far, but I am already excited to see if I will learn something that will help me form habits to change myself, and my life, for the better.

Daily Practice

Minutes: 30

Repertoire: Chicago Review

Technique Worked: I had a dress rehearsal to do tonight, so I took a nice long time warming my voice up! I'm so thankful to have it back. I warmed up my lower register well and took it easy on the upper register, since it's still much more weak and sore. Thank goodness this show is pretty darn low! Then, I gently went through the Chicago score to get my voice ready to go and review all of the material!

Musicality worked: I'm having a really hard time with the evolution of Roxie as a character. Today I took some time examining the differences between the songs, how the tone and timbre changes as she gets stronger and darker. And it's not a character evolution but more of a REVELATION, an unmasking of her true character if you will. This kind of work really helped the run tonight!

Thanks for checking in,
XOXO
